Roosevelt is a hamlet in the town of Hempstead which is mainly residential bordering Merrick, Freeport, Uniondale, and Baldwin. Long before Roosevelt was named to honor President Theodore Roosevelt it had a couple of other names which were Rum Point and Greenwich Point. After World War II came a huge boom of newly constructed homes. Roosevelt was one of the communities that allowed black residents to build their homes in the hamlet.
